Does Concern Mission International discriminate?
Poverty is political – there’s no way around that. When people go hungry, yet there is food enough to feed them, then something is wrong. When people are poor at a time when there has never been more wealth, we must ask why and who is responsible, and campaign for leaders to change their policies.
Concern Mission International is never party-political. We are interested only in pressing for policies that can best help the poor – not who makes them. All we care about is eradicating poverty and injustice and the causes of these.
To make this happen, we will talk to, and challenge, whoever we need to.
How is each $1 of Concern Mission’s income used?
-
Eighty-five cents in every $1 is used directly for charitable purposes.
-
Of this, 32 cents supports our Mission for long-term empowerment, enrichment, and development projects, 45 cents is spent on humanitarian and emergencies, and
-
8 cents on campaigning, advocacy, and education. The remaining 15 cents is invested in fundraising. For every $1 we invest, we secure more than $5 in return.
How does Concern Mission ensure that funds spent overseas aren't wasted s a result of corruption?
All funds or money sent overseas goes directly to our local Mission partners – Pastors and missionaries who are working on the ground – We have International Coordinators in each country where we serve.
The government in that country is aware of our work on the ground but does not have control or anything to do with our funds. CMI is a non-governmental organization (NGO). We are accountable to God, Almighty, to our donors, and our sponsors for funds.
To ensure our Mission partners are not corrupt and that our donor's and sponsors' money is spent effectively, Concern Mission International has a detailed process for evaluating Mission partners and projects that are as strong and healthy as any system implemented by financial institutions around the world.
Our donor's hard-earned money is well managed. Even though it is extremely uncommon, whenever, we are alerted to a misuse of funds within any of our operations home-based or abroad, an immediate investigation be conducted – If the root causes of the partner’s corruption are not addressed, we stop funding until the situation is resolved satisfactorily, funding may continue, but subject to future assessments.
Can I volunteer overseas on the Mission?
Concern Mission-supported projects and programs are managed by organizations and groups, local pastors, and missionaries to the area in need. For this reason, we don’t place volunteers overseas on the mission field, but work and partner with committed and dedicated local and indigenous in their respective countries. Volunteer opportunities in the United States and Africa, as well as all paid posts, are advertised on our website.
Why does Concern Mission use paid staff?
Like any well-organized, trustworthy, and dependable organization or business, an effective charity needs paid staff. To attract the caliber of full-time staff needed to run the affairs of the charity.
A charitable organization such as CMI is not an exception. it is necessary to recruit paid staff, because, we need the skills and commitment of both staff and volunteers to ensure the quality of the work that needs to be done.
A volunteer can leave at any time because, unlike paid staff, they are not contracted for a fixed or open term. Moreover, we require professionals to ensure we provide the best possible service to our beneficiaries and supporters.
How can I work for Concern Mission?
Any roles at Concern Mission International, whether paid or voluntary, are advertised on our website. Each role will need to be applied for separately.
Can I donate goods in kind (such as clothes, shoes, and backpacks, school supplies, and blankets)?
Concern Mission International accepts goods in kind. We receive donations of used clothes, shoes, blankets, and non-perishable canned goods. The cost of storing and shipping items to Africa is usually more expensive than sourcing them locally, however, there are desperate need for goods in kind.
Often in more cases, our local mission partners source the items they require as close to the area of need as possible. This also has the added benefit of helping, in a small way, to stimulate the local economy.
Can I choose to donate money to a particular project or country?
Yes! It can be possible to donate money to a particular project or program. Some local churches and groups are raising larger amounts to support our Missionary and Community Partnerships, which can attract matched funding meaning your efforts go even further.

Does Concern Mission International discriminte?
We are aware that racial, religious, and gender issues often create problems in a polarised political atmosphere such as the one in which we live. However, we have always been clear that every human being, regardless of race, background, nationality, creed, gender, or sexuality, is made in the image and likeness of God and that as such, they should always be treated with dignity and love.
Racial Discrimination is one of the key drivers of poverty. It is on that basis that we have programs that promote equality between women and men, and programs to tackle discrimination and violence against all human beings.
The COVID-19 pandemic has widened many existing inequalities (more girls than boys have dropped out of school, and more women than men lost work in the countries in which we work, especially in Africa. Conflicts in countries in which we work expose women and girls to high levels of sexual violence.
We know that many of our supporters care very much about these issues of gender justice, and we believe it’s right that they are an important dimension of our work. It is worth saying that our work expands and benefits the less fortunate men and boys as well as women and girls and is designed to help families and communities develop and stay together, not least by creating conditions in which they can secure a livelihood in their respective countries.
At Concern Mission International, we believe that everyone is equal in the sight of God, and we work to ensure that one day all people will live a life of dignity, equality, and justice, free from poverty.
We understand that people in poverty often face several, intersecting inequalities based on their identities. With this knowledge, we strive for a more inclusive world where identity – gender, ethnicity, caste, religion, class, sexual orientation, disability, age – is no longer a barrier to equal treatment.
